Contemporary Acrylics - One Day | Chris Postle
Book for Chris Postle's 1 or 2 full days of fun and creativity workshop.
Day 1 - Paint an Egret - Chris will supply a reference image of the Great Egret, a majestic bird which will contrast with the white on colour for impact. You are welcome to bring along your own simple subject if you wish to paint a bird of your own.
Day 2 - Paint an underwater theme of fish and turtles. You are welcome to bring in your own simple subject to paint.
Enjoy creating your own impactive background and finding a standout subject to bring your piece to life. One not to miss!
About this workshop
There will be no limits to your creative output with this workshop, where you will take ideas and images from your imagination (but are welcome to bring reference photos if preferred!) You will have the opportunity to bring your own favourite colours to create your own unique artwork. Chris will lead through a series of short demonstrations.

- You will learn to use tools you may not have used before and this will help with your journey discovering how to create engaging contemporary acrylic paintings.
- How to be in the moment of painting and having fun while learning skills that will broaden your horizons.
- How to create a lively background with acrylic washes, spattering and colour.
- Your own combinations of vibrant colours and blends.
- How to super impose a simple subject over their abstract background masterpiece.
Who is this workshop suitable for?
We welcome absolute beginners who would like to experiment with paint. This is also suitable for experienced painters who feel their work needs a fresh direction.
What do I need to bring?
Canvas:
- 50 x 50cm or up to 1m square primed canvas if you're an experienced painter and want to paint large. You can bring a rectangle primed canvas if you prefer.
- prime your canvas (gessoed) before the class. Pick a size you feel comfortable with.
Acrylic Paints
- Chroma A2 brands work well but feel free to bring your own range. You can choose your own colours you would like to work with.
- Please bring: Titanium white, Yellow ochre, some some ivory black and any other colours you like such as Magenta, Red, Black and Blue Gum, Phthalo Turquoise.
Brushes:
- Nylon flat at least 10mm width
- Rigger or fine liner approx 20mm length
- A small nylon detail brush
Other Materials
Some small plastic cups to mix the background paint
A good sized palette
Water spray bottle
Water container
Rags
Masking tape
Some lighter coloured chalk or pastel - to sketch up the subject
If possible, bring a hair dryer to dry the initial layer
Bring your lunch or you can purchase from the surrounding cafes and restaurants

His deep love for the ocean, environment and wildlife shines through his work! He is passionate about showing its beauty and preserving it.
Chris has won numerous awards for his art and has exhibited extensively throughout Queensland.
