I’m a beginner with no experience, is there a class for me?
Yes... Absolutely! The prerequisites and recommended skill levels are listed on each course/workshop page. Just look for ones that say they are suitable for absolute beginners. If you are unsure if a course is right for you, please contact a member of our friendly team for advice.
FYI: Foundation in Oils is our iconic course for beginners. Here is the link: Foundation in Oils
I’m an experienced artist, is there a class for me?
Yes... Absolutely! We offer a range of master classes by sought after professional artists from all over the world. The prerequisites and recommended skill levels are listed on each course/workshop page. If you are unsure if a course is right for you, please contact a member of our friendly team for advice.
What is the difference between a course and a workshop?
Courses run on a weekly basis during the four school terms each year. Each course runs for 4, 6 or 8 weeks (see the specific course page for details). Our courses have been designed to be progressive, so that you can confidently move from one level to the next, knowing that you have all of the skills you need to advance to the next stage.
Workshops range from 1 to 5 days and are taught by sought after professional guest artists from Queensland, interstate and overseas. They are a once off event and are held at various times throughout the year, both during and outside of the term schedule.
How soon do I need to enrol and pay for special guest artists workshops?
As soon as possible! Due to the calibre of our guest artists, workshops usually book out quickly. If you miss out, we can put your name on a waiting list in case of cancellations. But the best way to avoid disappointment is to book your place early.
When should I purchase my art materials for a course or workshop?
On the rare occasion, a course or workshop has to be cancelled. Once you have enrolled, please hold off purchasing any required art materials until you receive confirmation that the course or workshop is going ahead. This confirmation will usually be sent out via email at least 5 days before the course/workshop is due to commence.
Where can I buy art materials?
We recommend the Art Shed West End for high-quality art supplies at a reasonable price.
Address: 274 Montague Rd,
Brisbane City QLD 4101
Phone: (07) 3846 1330
https://www.artshedbrisbane.com.au/
We also have a small supply of art materials for sale at the studio. Please contact us if you can’t find what you are looking for.
What do I need to bring to classes?
Prices for adult classes exclude materials unless specified otherwise.
Please refer to the specific page for the course/workshop you are interested in attending for details of what materials you will need to bring.
You can bring your own mug to enjoy our complimentary coffee and tea.
How many students in the class?
We offer small class sizes to guarantee students receive individual tuition. Please refer to the specific page for the course/workshop you are interested in attending for specific details of class sizes.
What do I need to wear?
We recommend wearing closed-toe shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. We teach you how to set up your painting space in a way that keeps things from getting messy and we have aprons available to use, but sometimes accidents do happen....
Do you have air conditioning or heaters?
Yes! The studio is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter so you can paint in comfort all year round.
Can I store my painting at the studio?
Unfortunately, we don’t have the space available to store student’s paintings from courses and workshops.
Can I take photographs or videos in class?
We encourage students to 'be in the moment' and enjoy the learning process as it happens. Painting is one activity that is best learned by doing, so please refrain from photographing or videoing your lesson unless advised to do so.
Do I get a refund if I change my mind, or something comes up and I miss a class etc?
We do not offer refunds if you cancel your class, or offer make up classes. Please read our cancellation and refund policy in our terms and conditions carefully.
