Classical Figure Drawing: Core Elements | Scott Breton

Classical Figure Drawing: Core Elements | Scott Breton

Learn from Brisbane Portrait Prize finalist, Scott Breton.

This workshop condenses the form and figure drawing section of the Form, Gesture, Anatomy Course through a series of carefully designed sequential activities and drills. Many of the key elements from the anatomy section are covered, though we won’t be using sculpture activities due to time constraints. Nonetheless, the complementary access to the online notes will give you full access to the anatomy section.

His online materials directly support the content he will be teaching in this workshop. We will email you the link to gain access to the course notes once enrolled. The Table of Contents can be found at: www.formgestureanatomy.com

What will I learn?

Classical figure drawing is underpinned by several core elements. This workshop will guide through a carefully designed series of life drawing exercises to help you develop your capacity for: Form, the sense of three dimensionality, Gesture, the sense of implied movement, exertion or weight; Design, the aesthetic rhythms or patterns that make a drawing interesting and enjoyable, and Artistic Anatomy: the patterns of hard and soft tissue in the body that make a drawing feel authentic and real. Poses will range from very short, to several hours, and we will cover a range of drawing strategies and media.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

This workshop is most suitable for Intermediate and above. The life drawing activities we will be doing are approachable even for beginners. However, you will be greatly helped by a working knowledge of drawing form, ie 3D volumes. If this is not familiar to you, there is a series of illustrated notes and activities that you can prepare with in the online notes that you will be given access to with enrolment.
