Luminous Flowers and Glazing in Oils | Marcel Desbiens

Luminous Flowers and Glazing in Oils | Marcel Desbiens

Have you ever wanted to paint the optical illusion of depth and luminosity in your flower paintings? Marcel Desbiens will reveal his secrets for creating exquisite flower paintings in oils, using his signature techniques.

Marcel will guide you every step of the way to create luminous flowers with texture and detail. Using his technical expertise and simple and effective techniques, distilled from those of the Old Masters, you will be able to achieve instant, amazing results.

What will I learn?

Through demonstrations and a series of ‘hands-on’ exercises, you will learn fast and easy methods for painting flowers, using a multi-layering technique. This will include learning to:
• paint with opaque and transparent oil colours
• understand the advantages in painting with the Venetian technique
• build volume, textures and shapes from a first layer in tones of grey and second layer in full colour
• balance tones for a harmonious outcome
• produce optical effects by glazing transparent layers of colour.

The first session, we will paint the entire surface setting up the tones and shape with the various shades of grey. The second session we will lay the colours with variations in transparency and opacity to enhance the illusion of 3D.
