Zen & Sip | Theresa Rule
About this class
Join local professional artist Theresa Rule as she guides you in creating your own Zentangle. A Zentangle is a miniature abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. The Zentangle methods is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns or ‘tangles’.
What will I learn?
You create tangles with a combination of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down in Zentangle. In fact, you can most easily create Zentangle art by rotating your tile as you tangle – always keeping your hand in a relaxed position. You don’t need to know what a tangle is going to look like to draw it.
Instructions to get you started with some easy tangles along with lots of books, examples of Zentangle art, stencils and instructions sheets will be provided for you to reference during the night to assist you in creating your own Zentangle pieces of art.

About the Tutor
Theresa Rule is an Abstract Intuitive Artist. She doesn’t work from photographs or sketches and she doesn’t always have a specific view in mind when she paints. Instead, she starts with a mark, a colour, a memory, a word or piece of music in her head and goes from there, painting with a period of ‘play’ or experimentation, moving paint, mark-making, trying out ideas. Sometimes she sands her paintings back after a few layers of paint, revealing interesting textures and surprising marks. And then she begins to layer again.
Theresa enjoys trying to communicate without words when putting a piece of work together; she likes to make her paintings a visual journey, where the discovery of small details within the work helps build a story or evokes an emotion within the viewer that draws them back to the piece again and again.
